This warm-up exercise allows you to develop a series of drawings from the collection of parts of different maps to be used as a abstract design. It also provides you the chance to explore a variety of different color harmonies.
Students reviewed the work of various still life artists and mentored their style for a final work.
There were two separate projects created from the examples listed. The first project was created by students in which the research was based upon the Art Nouveau style. The students researched and reviewed the works of various Art Nouveau artists and created a design on silk.
The second set of images which include an ink frame were created by students after a week long experience in Chang Mai, Thailand. Students visited several Wat temples and other sites in the area and made drawings into their sketch books to document their experiences.
Students research information about their country of origin as the subject to their painting. They also will use the stylistic approach of a painter from that same country.
